Antigua Guatemala!

The city of Antigua Guatemala, or Antigua as it is commonly known; its the old capital of this country. This beautiful colonial city was funded in march 10 of 1543 by the Spanish  Francisco de la Cueva, ware build to be seat of Guatemalan Kingdom, includes Central America and Chiapas.

The first time i visited this lovely place, i was very little, with my family. Although i could really enjoyed only when i return with my boyfriend several years later. This might sound like a cliche, but i think this is a great place to go, not only with a couple, but with friends, family or even alone.
The second time that i went, i didn't  remembered so much, so it was a pleasant surprise to find this enchanting place in the beautiful Guatemala. The cobbled streets, and the houses with typical colonial architecture, gives you the feeling of returning to the past.

People is friendly and the city is relatively safe, be aware of your belongings, specially at night, but don´t dramatize the whole thing. There is a lot to do in the city, a simple walk would make a perfect evening, but also the restaurants, the craft shops, and the indigenous vendors will make your day.
There´s a souvenirs market with lovely things, and good prices too, if you know how to bargain a bit. There´s also a variety of social activities, cultural events and great bars to spend the day and of course to have fun at night!!

It is a good idea to take a city tour, basically it consist in a local guide who will explain to you the history, main attractions, and also take you to some of the old ruins still visited in the city. The Central Park is just great, with the church and the town hall surrounded by threes and coffee places.
Here´s a pic of the City Hall:

Here are more Pictures of Antigua streets, and main architecture

Sadly, the city was beaten by different earthquakes in the past, so some of the old buildings and churches were demolished or half destroyed. Here´s a picture of the old Cathedral.

More Pics of Antigua!

There is some many things to see and memories to share, too many to post them here, but i hope you can give to yourself the chance to enjoy this place in person, i can guaranteed you won´t regret it!!
